Marvel has been at it again with X-Men: Days of Future Past. Marvel fans certainly have not been disappointed lately with the latest slew of our favorite Marvel characters and it does not look like they have any intention of stopping. Captain America, Thor, and Spiderman are the latest additions in the collection of Marvel’s epic sagas. Now it looks like Marvel is sending our favorite characters back to the future to save our own future. This kids movie review has the latest news on the most recent addition to the Marvel family album.

This X-Men movie takes a look back to the beginning of some of Marvel’s classic characters. This time they must join forces with younger versions of themselves to save the future of mutants. The story opens with a narration by Patrick Stewart as the beloved Charles Xavier. He is telling of a war where humans have created killing machines designed to detect and exterminate mutants. Now, only a few mutants have survived and they must band together to save the last of what remains of their world.

Are the X-men a family friendly this time? Not necessarily. When Logan’s younger consciousness awakens in the past, he finds himself in bed with a beautiful woman. She is only wearing her underwear and he is seen fully naked from the back. We see Mystique as her natural self, which is wearing a nearly nude latex body suit. Although most parts are covered, there is little to the imagination.

Other than the nearly nude mutants in the movie, there is the normal array of X-men violence. There is war, mayhem and mass destruction everywhere. Mutants are crushed, shot, impaled and burned. Mutants have been tortured and subjected to inhumane treatment. Wolverine impales humans with his claws. Mystique pins a man to the wall with her foot to his throat. There is a high blood and gore factor to this movie. This movie is not short on its share of foul language either. Professor Xavier is seen drinking and depressed as his younger self. There is also a part of drunk military officials. Professor Xavier also becomes drug addicted through a drug that is injected.

This is only the short list of violence, blood and gore. The most frightening scene in the movie for me was the scene with the dead mutants who were being experimented on. They looked like teens and younger children. In my opinion, this movie was the darkest ever. The Sentinels were frightening, emotionless creatures who killed without remorse. This movie reminded me very much of the opening scenes of Judgment Day, only with that level of violence nonstop throughout the entire movie.

The sheer level of violence in this movie should be taken into account when deciding on whether to take the kids. This parental guide to the movies thinks that caution is advised for anyone under the age of 13, or for those who are sensitive to those types of movies. Even hardened X-men fans may be disturbed by this one.
