For those of you who think that you escaped little blue creatures that seemed to spring up and surround the planet, Parental Guide to the movies has news for you. They’re back in Smurfs 2! Once again, Gargamel is up to no good and the Smurfs must team up with their human friends for an action packed adventure. It seems that Gargamel has kidnapped Smurfette, but that is not all there is to the story. This movie review for families will tell you all about it.
Gargamel has kidnapped Smurfette and the Smurfs must try to save her. Why would Gargamel kidnap Smurfette, you might ask? It seems that she knows a secret. He has developed a new type of creature called the “naughties”. Smurfette knows how to turn his creatures into real smurfs. He does not want his devious creations to become smurfs so he must kidnap her to keep her from carrying her plan through.
The naughties are rude and obnoxious. The naughties are grey smurfs who play all types of tricks on the smurfs. It is action packed slapstick fun as the smurfs fly ducks through a dinner party and unmount a ferris wheel so that it goes rolling along in this true blue adventure. The movie is filled to the brim with smurfity cuteness and laughs. You can’t help but smile at this one the whole way through.
This movie has several jokes that involve bodily functions, but other than that, it is a fairy tale adventure guaranteed to chase the blues away. There are several instances where the cat and Gargamel smash into a glass window. It does not break, they just sink to the ground then come back in the next scene. It was rated a PG, but it should be a good movie for the whole family. Many of the smaller ones will not get the rude humor and jokes.
So gather up the family, prepare to spring for some popcorn and candy for this kids movie. Oh, and don’t forget those little actions figures with the pointy hands and feet. Your kids will definitely want some after the movie. You might want to include some earplugs so that you can escape that perennial from decades ago, “la la lalalala, sing a happy song.” You haven’t forgotten that one have you? If you have, or at least tried to, you are about to be reminded once again.
