The Longest Ride takes you on a soul journey where two people are destined to meet in an unexpected way. It is about two people brought together by fate. They are not exactly a match made in heaven, or are they? This movie, based on a best-selling novel by Nicholas Sparks, is an intriguing romance, but this parental guide for parents thinks that it may not be for the younger members of the family.

The two lovers in this movie, Luke and Sophia are about as opposite as one can get. Luke is a former bull riding champion who is looking to make a comeback in his career on the circuit. Sophia is a college student who just landed her dream job in New York City’s lucrative art world. These two paths do not seem like they were meant to be together, but the stars have something else in store for these two lovers. This is where Ira comes in. Ira is an older gentleman who is trapped in a car crash. He tells his tale of life-long love with his wife. These two love tales are intertwined into a mix that spans the generations.

This movie contains adult themes that may not be considered appropriate for children under the age of 12. It contains some rough bull riding scenes, and war scenes as Ira tells his tale. There is some partial nudity connected with the younger couple’s love affair. There are some thematic elements concerning male and female relationships mixed with some rough language. There is some touching and kissing in a romantic manner sprinkled throughout the entire movie.

As far as the love story is concerned, this movie gives the audience a little something different by intertwining the love story across generations and the circumstances under which the lovers met. The movie’s tension is created when a doctor tells Luke that he has to give up bull riding and asks Sophia to try to convince him to save his life. This is a fascinating love story, but is too adult for a kid’s movie.
