Taken 2 revolves around the life of retired CIA operative Bryan Mills. Mills is retired and living a life of luxury. During a family vacation in Istanbul with his family he is discovered by some old enemies. In the original Taken, Mills saved his daughter from kidnappers. Now the tide is turned, and his daughter must save Mills and his supposed wife from the same kidnappers, bent on revenge. The plot is good, the action is good, but is it good family movie fun for the whole family? Let this family movie review continue.
This movie, Taken 2, is an action flick and is very frightening for younger members of the family. Milläó»s daughter in the movie is an older teen of at least 16 years old. There is lots of gunfire and a frightening abduction scene. The villains in the movie are of Middle Eastern origin, not necessarily the best message for teaching diversity to our children. The villains in the movie are built on much too common ethnic stereotypes. The movie involves a violent kidnapping scene where black hoods are placed over the heads of Mills and his wife.
If that is not enough, there is an electrocution scene and graphic portrayals of torture. The entire theme of the movie is based on violent revenge for past and actions. There are car explosions, impossible leaps from tall buildings, and many other forms of violence you would expect in this blood for blood type of action flick.
If you pay close attention to the plot, the woman and daughter with Mills are his ex-wife and daughter. There are many scenes of women begging for their life against horrible villains. They are waiting for a hero to come and save them. I found this movie very disappointing and its portrayal of women and ethnic groups. They stuck to long-standing stereotypes. The movie had foul language used throughout, smoking, drinking, and drug use. There is also a theme of human trafficking in the film as well.
The movie was suggested for ages 13 and above and every parent must make their own decision. However, at Parental Guide, we are dedicated to make certain that this is an informed decision. Taken 2 is an action packed flick that may not be fun for the entire family. Every parent must make that decision for themselves, but at least with this family movie review, you wonäó»t be unpleasantly surprised.
