Mia has to review her life and the choices that she has made. Mia sees the good and the bad times in her life. The movie portrays realistic family relationships and drama, as Mia’s life hangs in the balance. The love romance remains central to the plot and focus of the movie.
There is no actual teen nudity, but there is a suggestion that two teen characters are in bed with a quilt pulled over them. Several of the teen girls wear low cut tops. There is kissing and the implication that it goes further in several scenes. There is one scene where two homosexual females kiss on the lips. There are more sexual references by teens than one can count. The movie features a teenage rock singer and much of what goes on behind the scenes, things the teens probably will not tell their parents when they get home.
thematic content of the movie. There is some blood and gore in the car accident scene. There are lots of hospital scenes that are graphic, including a scene where the main character is seen with blood and surgical instruments sticking from her belly. There are several scenes that have ghosts of people who have died in them. There are quite a number of obscenities in the movie too. This is not a calm, quite romance story. It is a cross between a romance, a drama, and a horror movie all rolled into one. Smoking and drinking abound in the movie. There is lots of talk about whether she wants to stay or die. She has lost her parents in the crash and will be an orphan, but she also has the potential of life with her true love.
If I Stay is a highly emotional movie about some serious topics. The movie continually flashes back to the most horrific scenes, such as the car crash. This one was rated a PG-13, but this is not a kid’s movie by any stretch.
