Getaway is a down and dirty action packed thriller that involves a man and his car. When Brent Magna’s wife is kidnapped, he is trapped in a race against time to save her. He is in a race against time, so he hijacks a Shelby Cobra Mustang for this action packed thrill ride. This family movie guide thinks that you might want to think twice about taking the kids to this one.

This is an intense movie with lots of intense scenes. There is lots of adult language sprinkled moderately throughout the plot. The kidnapping scene in the beginning is intense. It has intense high-speed chases with narrow misses all along the way. A girl pulls a gun on him and he ends up kidnapping her. The scene involves violence and a teenager. The criminal tells the main character to kill the teenager. He does not, but the scene is emotionally intense.

There are explosions, cars flipping in the air, many bullets. Many cars and humans are killed in this film. One expects this type of mayhem from an action movie, but this one is especially intense. It has all the elements of an action film, but it also extracts a heavy emotional toll on the viewers as well. This is not a movie for those younger than 13. For teens that are emotionally sensitive to the topics of violence, kidnapping, or other issues against peers, this movie might not be a good choice.

When the main character in the movie finds out his wife has been kidnapped, he is told simply to drive. He must follow exact instructions or they will kill her. The woman is heard screaming in the background of several scenes. Some people might find this to be disturbing. This movie reaches a level of emotional intensity that is beyond the norm for this genre. The director managed to offer the audience physical and emotional impact right from the first minute to the closing credits. At times, it was difficult to determine if the main character was the main character, or whether it was the car that was in the spotlight. The car takes the spotlight in many scenes.
