After Earth builds a post apocalyptic world one thousand years after the inhabitants had to leave. Now, two soldiers have crash-landed on the new Earth. They must make it across dangerous ground to recover their signaling beacon so that they can call for help. This sci-fi thriller has plenty of blood, gore, and suspense that might make it too much for a kids movie. Here are some examples so that you can see for yourself.

The aliens kill the human characters in many violent ways. A man must perform heart surgery on himself. You see the blood and the scalpel. A many injects himself in the heart. A boy has his leg pulled off by an alien. This movie is about violent aliens with scary teeth and claws wrecking havoc on humanity. Many of the scenes are dark which were used to try to conceal the violence through cinematography, but there this did little to hide the gore throughout this movie. The humans not only face aliens in the movie, they also face many familiar beasts as well. A giant bird tries to eat a boy. There are huge spiders and snakes too. The movie shows animal corpses throughout, including several dogs. After Earth is rather mild in terms of adult language, sexual content and drugs or alcohol, but it is an intense movie for kids.

After Earth is the basic frightening alien movie with lots of things that jump out of nowhere, presumably to eat you. Every species on Earth has evolved to kill humans, and the threats are everywhere. This sci-fi dramatic thriller is an excellent cataclysm film. Many of the characters deal with deep emotions and must face their worst fear. The creatures can sense fear and the characters must learn to hide their emotions. The lead child character blames himself for his sister's death and must confront the guilt. The emotions are as intense as the action and this Parental Guide to the movies thinks that it may be too much for younger members of the family. This movie is the stuff nightmares are made of.
