Wreck-it Ralph Movie Review for Parents

           Wreck-it Ralph is the latest Disney creation and you can expect that your video game fan will probably beg to see it, if you can tear the controller away from them long enough. Ralph, a villain in a video game is tired of a life of chaos and crime. He wants to be a good guy and the hero for once. He decides to turn the tide and become the hero of his fantasy world, but instead, his well-intentioned efforts bring havoc to the entire arcade that he calls home. This movie is rated PG, and this family movie review has an opinion about Wreck-it Ralph and his chaotic activities.

            Wreck-It Ralph wants to be a good guy, but he has been destined by his programmers to be forever the bad guy. When a first person shooter game called Sergeant Calhoun arrives, Ralph gets an idea. He sneaks into the wrong game and plans to win the medal. The only problem is that his program just isn’t coded that way and he finds himself wrecking everything that he touches. Unfortunately, Ralph accidentally unleashes a super enemy who threatens to destroy every game in the arcade.

            Ralph sees this as his one chance to save the day and become the hero that he wants to be. His only ally is a troublemaker “glitch” who is from a candy-coated kiddie car racing game. Ralph does not know how to be good, all he knows is bad. The “glitch” has only a short time to teach him how to be good. Time is running out and Ralph has a long way to go before becoming “good”.

            The MPAA rated the Wreck-it Ralph movie PG for rude humor, action and violence. However, this movie was carefully crafted for the entire family by Disney. They were aware that if one child saw it, the younger ones would too. The violence is related to video game violence. The not-so-hero who wants to be a hero, shows that one can change whom they are if they want to. It is about the power and control to change in a positive way. There are struggles along the way to change, but in the end, with hard work, one can be anything that they want to be regardless of where they came from. The overall message of the movie is a positive one.

            Wreck-it Ralph is a very cute candy-coated movie all the way through. The jokes in the movie are ones that every child will relate to and every care-giver has heard at least 1,000 times. I was trying to recall when the last time an actual G movie was released. I really can’t remember. Wreck-it Ralph is a positive movie about self-acceptance, about not putting others down, and about being a good friend. In the opinion of this parental guide to the movies, the message and content of the movie far outweighs any suggested commentary about the substance deposited in diapers.
