Twilight is both a Romance and Fantasy film about a teenage girl and a vampire who fall in love. The movie is based upon a popular young adult book of the same name. Because it was intended for a younger audience, its subject matter and rating reflect those milder interests. The movie came to theater in November 2008 while the DVD was released in March of 2009.

Twilight is rated PG-13 due to some violence as well as one scene of sensuality. For the most part, it is on the softer side of the PG-13 rating. Parents who are concerned with the content of the movie are advised to first watch the DVD themselves.

There has been at least as much criticism of the movie Twilight as there has been praise for it. This does not have so much to do with the rating as the quality of the writing. However, even if a parent isn't fond of the idea of having the DVD around, it is useful to note that the book was nominated within the American Library Association's "Top Ten Books for Reluctant Readers" list. It may be worthwhile encourage a child's interest in the story as it can also promote a passion for reading.
