Movie Review for Parents

-by Ginger

Yes, this family movie review is about the powerful, never fluffy or cuddly, arrogant Thor from Norse mythology that we all love and adore. You know the story, Thor is cast out of Asgard and sent to live amongst the lowly humans on Earth. He becomes one of their greatest legendary defenders against his own villainous brother Loki. There are a few differences between the Thor in this Marvel epic and the original myth.

This time, the famous epic is set in modern times. In this version, earthlings discover an ancient Celtic knotwork symbol that turns out to be the bridge to Asgard. Thor comes down the bridge and lands, splat onto the hard soil. He soon finds himself strapped to a hospital bed claiming to be the mighty Thor. Apparently, someone did not believe him. In true Thor fashion, he breaks his straps and wrecks havoc and mayhem on the hospital and hospital staff as they try to subdue him. It soon becomes obvious that Thor is not like other earthlings. Back in Asgard, Thor vows to defend the people of earth. Of course, he falls in love with an earthling and fights to save her along with the rest of the planet.

In several epic battles, Thor must fight increasingly stronger and more sinister villains in order to make good on his vow to save the people of earth, and his sweetheart. As this is a movie about Thor, there are plenty of fight scenes and scary monsters to battle. In the end, Thor must save earthlings from his villainous brother from Asgard. It is done in true Marvel form, much like Iron Man, and others films of the Marvel Universe. Because of the violence and real quality of the scary monsters, this parental guide to the movies does not recommend this movie for younger children. However, for tweens and above, this is a really fun movie, especially if yours happens to have one of those larger than life stacks of comic books under their bed. The scenes of Asgard are stunning and well done. Dare you threaten the MIGHTY THOR you puny earthling!
