This modern take on an old classic is based on the tale in the original Sorcerer’s Apprentice by Disney. Computer graphics make this classic a delightful take on the battle between good and evil. It contains violence, but in Disney fashion. This version of the Sorcerer’s Apprentice combines comedy with action-adventure, as the sorcerer’s apprentice, played by Jay Baruchel, attempts to learn the secrets of his master. As in the original, the apprentice gets himself in more trouble than he can handle.
The main subject of the movie is sorcery and magic, much in the Harry Potter tradition. Violence in the movie is based on fantasy, not reality. There is some mild humor regarding nudity and some inappropriate language. However, all in all, this movie would be OK for those who are 8 or 9 and above. The MPAA rated it PG, but I would call it more towards the PG-13 side of the scale. The subject matter is something that would appeal to the pre-teen crowd.
