Movie Summary

Your favorite blue Smurfs are coming to a theater near you in 3D in a hybrid live-action and animation. The smurf's are forced out of their village by Gargamel, the evil wizard, and end up going through a portal and end in our world. They land in New York's Central Park and must find a way home before Gargamel finds them first.

Movie Review for Parents

This family movie guide warns all parents to take heed. Just when you thought it was safe to go back to the movies those little blue creatures are back singing their happy song… only now they are in 3d. If you did not think you were quite ready for their return, just blame it on Gargomel, who chased them into the modern world. Yes, it’s a smurfing good time; and if you don’t smurf that, you will just have to go see it yourself.

This movie is an updated version of the original and it is full of laughs and fun for all. It was rated PG for rude humor, but I really can’t see it, unless you consider the scene involving Smurfette’s dress blowing up Marilyn Monroe style over an air vent and getting mooned by a smurf. This parental guide to the movies would really consider this a movie for all ages, including the very young. The MPAA considered Gargomel and the “Violence” against Smurfs too much for some small children, but it was really mild.

The smurfs are adorable and they did some really good gags with those blue adorable creatures this time. My favorite was when they were standing in front of a sign and one of them tells the rest to blend in. The sign was a poster of Blue Man Group. The movie has an awesome soundtrack, smurfifying some of our old favorites from the 80s.

Take the advice of this family movie review and the main human character in the story, do not be fooled by their cuteness! You should know by experience that when you take your kids to see this movie, and we know that you will, those innocent little creatures will invade your home relentlessly with their language, their blueness, their cuteness… and that song. Remember, the lyrics were simple, “la la – lalalala la lala la la.” If your kids start singing it until they are blue in the face, just remember that they are not trying to torture you, it is ADDICTING!

But seriously, this promises to be a fun movie for all viewers. I was just cruising the net to see what was smurfing out there and someone already used the term “smurfpocalypse”. This parental guide to the movies suggests that the critics stay away from this one; the only purpose of the movie is nonstop laughs and a good time. There are no really serious themes or subject matter to be had. It was not trying to make a statement on anything discernable. So it is the advice of this family movie review, to just grab the kids, get in the car, buy some popcorn and sing a happy song along with them. If you can’t beat them, smurf them.
