Movie Review for Parents

by Ginger

The Next 3 Days is an adult movie about a couple whose lives are torn apart when the wife is accused of murder. They were the perfect family, until Mom is jailed for murder. Mom breaks out of prison and goes “on the lam.” What were they trying to demonstrate with that? The story is heart wrenching, particularly from the kid’s point of view. The kids in this movie have to watch their mother arrested in their home, and then she tries to commit suicide. The kids are very involved with the action in the movie. The kids also take part in the action in the movie, including Mom’s attempted jailbreak. This might be traumatic for children under 13.

The MPAA rated this movie a PG-13 for violence, drug related material, language, sexuality, and inappropriate themes. There are many other reasons besides those listed by the MPAA why children under the age of 12 should not see this movie. This movie might be too frightening due to the position of the children losing their mother. The inclusion of children in the movie gives it a personal feel for younger audiences. The use of children in the movie would be the most traumatic aspect of the movie for younger audiences.

I don’t know whether Mom is innocent or guilty, but she does attempt a jailbreak. She transforms from perfect mother and wife to outlaw “on the lam.” This is an action packed thriller with excessive violence. I would call it closer to an R, simply because of the sensitive themes of the movie, particularly where the children are concerned. Although, it does not technically go over the edge, it is close and I would not take children under 12 to see this movie.
