Movie Summary
The Fighter is inspired by the true story of boxer "Irish" Mickey Ward and his half-brother Dickie Eklund (Christian Bale) who helped train him. Dickie was the pride of his working-class town in Massachusettes. After losing to Sugar Ray Leonard, Dickie's life began spiraling downward as he turned to crime and drugs. Underdog "Irish" Mickey lived in the shadows of his brother and must find a way to pull his family out of hopelessness. Dickie gets out of prison on parole and begins helping his brother train and also finds redemption in the process. Paramount Pictures' The Fighter is directed by David O. Russell and stars Mark Wahlberg, Christian Bale, Amy Adams, and Melissa Leo.
