The Amazing Spider-Man Movie Review for Parents

-by Ginger

The Amazing Spiderman once again spins his web of justice on the big screen beginning July 3. Most of you know the story. This episode of the story focuses on a clue found by Peter Parker that may help him to understand why his parents mysteriously disappeared many years ago. This clue leads him to his father’s former partner, Dr Curt Connors. It is a story about a teen trying to find himself and understand how he got to be who he has become. This parental guide to the movies thinks that this web of mystery is a delight for those Marvel fans in the family.

The story is about a quest, and one that is not all that unfamiliar to almost every teen. Peter Parker is on a quest to find out how he came to be who he is and why his parents disappeared. Peter is also struggling with his first crush, Gwen Stacey. If that is not enough for the average teen to handle, he finds a mysterious briefcase that once belonged to his father. This leads him directly to a clash with OsCorp and his father’s former business partner. Peter Parker must make tough decisions. He must decide whether to stay in hiding because he has been set up to look like the city’s number one enemy and a wanted man or use his powers to shape the future and to fulfill his destiny as the superhero that we all know and love. If Spidey decides to use his powers he will expose himself, leaving him in the position of evading capture himself and thwarting the bad guy.

Aside from the hero versus evil villain plot that one expects from Marvel, The Amazing Spiderman movie also tackles many topics about coming of age. The plot of self-discovery almost overshadows the hero/villain plot. The Amazing Spiderman movie does contain its share of action and violence that might not be appropriate for the younger members of the family. Afterall, how does a superhero fight evil without violence?

Sequences of action and violence were the only reasons for the PG-13 rating. The teenage romance scenes are mostly mushy teenager stuff, not explicit. The Amazing Spiderman movie does contain frightening scenes, such as when a little boy is trapped in a vehicle that has just gone over a bridge. Don’t worry, Spiderman saves all of the innocent people in the movie. This family movie review thinks that The Amazing Spiderman is an amazing action movie that would be amazingly fun for the whole family, all cautions considered. The Amazing Spiderman movie will prove to be amazingly fun on July 4th to beat the heat.  Sere how Spidey untangles the web that has been woven.
