Do you believe in destiny, fate, or freewill? This movie asks the question of which one is reality. David Norris, played by Matt Damon, is on the brink of winning a seat on the U.S. Senate. He is ambitious and has dreams. A chance meeting brings him face to face with the woman of his dreams. Modern ballet dancer, Elise Sellas played by Emily Blunt, is fun and outspoken. They fall in love, but others have different plans for both of them.
The Adjustment Bureau is an omnipotent, omniscient, organization that is in the background of everyone’s lives. They are responsible for planning the events that will shape the fate of everyone in the world. The Adjustment Bureau is much like the Men In Black, in that they carry out their work seamlessly so that no one even knows that they are there. The Adjustment Bureau has other plans for the aspiring Senator and ballet dancer. They are not supposed to be together, but they keep having unplanned encounters, despite the best efforts of the Adjustment Bureau.
In this boy meets girl plot, David must decide whether to follow his heart and pursue the woman of his dreams, or to bend to the whims of the Adjustment Bureau. You guessed it, these star struck lovers decide to make a run for it, with the Adjustment Bureau hot on their trail. From this point on, the movie is filled with chase scenes and action. The action is more like a James Bond movie as the two lovers try to outsmart and escape the Adjustment Bureau. They are in a fight for freewill and their lives.
This Parental Guide family movie review has to agree with the MPAA rating on this one. They rate it a PG-13 for strong language, mild sexual content, and violent images. This movie might be too adult for the younger ones, but it would be OK for 13 and older. The content is more like a soap opera in terms of kid friendliness. On that note, some soap operas are worse. It is similar to Men in Black in terms of secret organizations, but without the humor. The Adjustment Bureau is serious when it comes to their work. This family move guide considers it alright for teens, but not for the younger ones. The plot is more like a sappy romance, so they would probably be grossed out anyway.
