This action packed thriller is about a soldier who wakes up in the body of someone else. He discovers that in his new body, he is on a mission to find the bomber of a commuter train. This parental guide to the movies agrees with the MPAA that this movie is rated PG-13 for violence and language. Colter, played by Jake Gyllehaal, can go back in time up to 8 minutes before a tragic event. He has 8 minutes to find the bomber and prevent the disaster.
I would give this plot an A+ for an original plot. Every time the soldier goes back, he is in a body of someone who was really in the scene before the tragic event. He meets a woman, who was the female acquaintance of the man whose body Colter jumps into. Colter falls in love with the girl and wants to go back and save her, but this is not permitted, He must go back and save her at any cost.
The source code is a program that allows people to go back in time and occupy another person’s body. They are then able to prevent a disaster from occurring. This is a new type of soldier. Colter is cast back into the same train scene again and again until he gets it right. However, the movie is engaging, as every time the main character jumps back in time, a little more is revealed about the plot. There is enough variety to keep the audience engaged. This thriller would be appropriate for pre-teens and teens. It is suspenseful and deals with violence and scenes of mass disasters. This movie is a mystery that slowly reveals itself, until the main character finally figures out what he is supposed to do and why he keeps coming back to the same place in time and space. This family movie reviews considers Source Code to be an excellent and engaging movie especially for the sci-fi fan in the family.
