Movie Summary

Ginnifer Goodwin and Kate Hudson star is this romantic comedy with a familiar plot. Rachel (Ginnifer Goodwin) has it all: she is a successful New York attorney, a true friend but sadly still single. Her best friend Darcey (Kate Hudson) is engaged and finds every opportunity to remind Rachel of her single status. However, everything changes when Rachel falls for her old crush, Darcey's boy friend. It gets complicated quickly.

Dex and Darcy are the perfect couple. They are really in love and it looks like a dream come true, that is until Dex meets Darcy’s best friend Rachel. Friendships are strained, to say the least. Dex must choose between Darcy and Rachel. Meanwhile, Rachel and Darcy try to maintain their friendship. This drama about adult relationships uses a common plot that relies on the characters to drive the plot. This love triangle strains all of the relationships and in the end, it is difficult to untangle this twisted love web.

This parental guide to the movies found Something Borrowed to have everything that an adult drama could want, but many things that a kid’s movie does not want. Aside from the general premise of the plot, which centers on the complex romantic world of the young and fabulous, this movie shows drinking, sexual language, suggestions of adult relationships, lots of deep kissing, and drug related language. No, this one is not for the kids, not even for the early teens. It is not graphic enough to receive an R rating, according to strict protocols of the MPAA, but this parents movie advisory has to issue a word of caution. It teaches everything that a parent does not want to teach their young teenagers about healthy adult relationships, trust, or commitment. It might rate and A as a movie for young adults who enjoy chic movies and sappy dramas, but this movie rating guide has to call it a ladies night out to the movies without the kids. It is absolutely not for younger children and it is not for younger teens either. It might even be a good idea to leave the men in your lives at home too, this was a movie targeted towards young adult women. It is unlikely that the men would enjoy this one, better leave him at home with the kids and enjoy a ladies night out on this one.
