Snow White and The Huntsman Movie Summary

Snow White and The Huntsman, stars Kristen Stewart, Twilight, as the beautiful Snow White, the envy of the evil queen, played by Charlize Theron. The evil queen wants Snow White destroyed and sends the huntsman to rid the land of the only one fairer than the evil queen. However, Snow White is not a damsel in distress, she has been training with the huntsman, Chris Hemsworth, and is ready to defend herself.

Don’t think that this is the Snow White that you remember as a child. The story still has an evil Queen and Snow White is still the fairest in all the land. The evil Queen still thinks that Snow White must die. Only this time, the Queen sends one of the best huntsmen in the land to kill Snow White. Only things do not go as planned by the evil queen and her efforts are once again thwarted by an intervening third party. This parental guide to the movies thinks that this version of the classic fairy tale will keep you glued to your seats, but the Snow White and the Huntsman movie is not a PG version.

Where were we? Oh yes, the evil Queen sends a huntsman to kill Snow White. Once the huntsman finds Snow White he finds that she truly is the fairest in the land and is unable to kill her. He cannot murder the innocent young, beauty but instead ends up training her to become a warrior and a real threat to the Queen’s evil reign. Now the Queen has a real challenge on her hands.

Aside from this deviation from the original plot, the Snow White and the Huntsman movie is absolutely stunning from the beginning. The photography grabs the audience from the very first scene. This Snow White movie was well made and brings the audience into the world of the characters on the screen. The characterization is amazing. The hero is brave and roughish. The heroine is beautiful and delicate. The dwarves are full of personality. It is well, worth the cost of the ticket in the opinion of this family movie review.

The Snow White movie was rated a PG-13 for violence and action. There is also a scene of brief sensuality. The battle scenes were brutal and bloody with some frightening images, maybe too frightening for the small ones in the family. This Snow White movie is nothing like the Disney cartoon that we all grew up with. The movie has a dark mood and focuses on the evil side of the plot. The mirror is dark and may be too intense and morbid for some. These were the key reasons for a PG-13 rather than a PG rating.

The movie shows someone being strangled to death. There are gargoyles, crows, misty graveyards, and horrifying monsters. There is blood and gore, but the violence is largely suggested. The audience does not see the actual act of violence, just the before and the after. This movie may be too scary for the little ones. It is targeted towards a pre-teen to young teen audience. This Snow White and the Huntsman movie is extremely well done, but also one that this family movie review has to provide a word of caution on, particularly for those that are expecting the happy fairy tale from days of old.
