Scott Pilgrim (Michael Cera) is a 22 year old, unemployed rocker who falls hard for the beautiful Ramona Flowers(Mary Elizabeth Winstead). To win Ramona's heart, Scott must battle her 7 ex-boyfirends. Based on Bryan Lee O'Malley's comic book of the same name.

This teenage love story intermingles the real world with a type of comic book-like world. It contains many fight scenes and would not be suitable for smaller children. It is geared towards a teenage audience. It shows teenage counterculture at its finest. In order to gain the woman of his desire, Scott Pilgrim must fight her evil exs. There are direct references to homosexuality several times throughout the movie. The central plot of the movie revolves around the need to beat up the lead female character’s ex boyfriends to prove his love to her.
The themes in this movie definitely say steer clear with children under 12 years old. It is presented in a sock ‘em up comic book fashion, with fantasy fight scenes woven in throughout. The hero fights with everything from light sabers to flaming swords.
I would steer clear of this movie with children below 13. Its presentation of violence in a comic book like manner make unsuitable for children who are not yet old enough to discern reality from fantasy.
The central theme of the movie is that violence wins the prize. The main character has to fight to win the love of his life. In the end, he proves himself to be the best fighter and through doing so, he gets the girl. This movie does not teach good sold principles, but teens who are into comic books would probably like it nonetheless. Just for fun, try counting the number of different hair colors that the character Ramona dons throughout the movie. Hopefully, this movie will not inspire teens to start wearing hair in blue, magenta and green…we saw enough of that in the early 1980s.
