Rise of the Guardians Movie Review for Parents

-by Ginger

Rise of the Guardians is an animated movie that combines magic and adventure. An evil spirit, Pitch, has a plan to take over the world. The Guardians must join forces to save the world and to allow children to have their dreams, hopes, and fantasies. It was rated PG for scary action, but let this family move guide tell you more.
The MPAA considered this movie to contain some bad thematic elements that caused it to be upgraded from a G to a PG. The movie contained cartoon action that would have caused it to be upgraded anyway, without the thematic elements. Jack Frost is a playboy, with no responsibilities and a bad attitude about almost everything.
The movie has Santa Clause, the Tooth Fairy, the Sandman, and the Easter Bunny. Jack faces an evil foe and must overcome his fears to battle a larger than life evil villain. It is more cute than anything. Jack makes Santa’s naughty list, but he is more heroic than naughty. This Rise of the Guardians movie was similar to Puss in Boots and the Shrekmovies in terms of humor, themes and violence. The only question is whether you want your children to see it because it does hint that once you are no longer a child, these heroes do not exist. It suggests that these things will not be permanent, because they need to be “protected” for as long as possible. The images of childhood characters will make this a delightful hit for all ages.
Jack Frost is a delightful character and his mischief does not go too far for family fun. The Rise of the Guardians film is a beautiful and magically animated all for one and one for all adventure that will be a surefire winner for every member of the family. Some of the characters may break a few stereotypes, but nothing that will ruin your Child’s dreams of candy canes and Sugar Plum Fairies. I would suggest this movie for all ages, except maybe those under 3 due to the scary scenes and evil monster.
