Movie Review for Parents

-by Ginger

This is a story about a bird who flew the coop…literally. Blu is the average macaw living in small-town Minnesota. He meets a lively and independent bird of his dreams and they take off on a non-stop adventure to Rio de Janiero. The birds in this movie are beautiful and dance to native samba sounds. It is cute and the birds have some similarity to the cute penguins that were found in Happy Feet.

The movie was originally rated PG for off-color humor by the MPAA. However, after re-screening the rating was changed to a G. These include bouncing a beach ball off of a woman’s butt in Rio. Cartoon characters die and monkeys are kicked and whacked. The terms idiot and coward are used extensively in this movie. If these types of activities do not bother you, then this is a movie for all ages. This movie was made by the creators of Ice-Age and has similar humor, and feel.

The soundtrack is wonderful and very danceable. It is cute and has slapstick style comedy, particularly as Blu is learning to fly…with a little help from a parasailor. There is not much to say about this one, except that it is well made, very cute, and is appropriate for all ages. This family movie review advises parents to go with the kids and enjoy it as a family.
