Syracuse (Colin Farrell) is a simple fisherman who catches what he believes to be a dead mermaid in his net. She comes to life before his eyes and he begins to believe she is a myth come true. Ondine and Syracuse fall passionately in love and look forward to happily ever after. A car crash and the return of a villain from Ondine's past creates a twist.
