Nursery Furniture

Nurseries are multipurpose rooms within a house that are used as bedrooms for young children. The children in nurseries are typically young in age, from infancy to preschool. One way to give a nursery a theme is through the use of nursery furniture. These different pieces can compliment a room and give a nursery its function. The nursery also provides the young children with a safe environment to play in as well as a sleeping area.

One piece of nursery furniture that can be used is a changing table. Changing tables are raised level surfaces that are useful in enabling a parent to change a child’s diaper. Changing tables come in a wide variety of types from plastic to solid wood and are usually designed with a children’s theme in mind. In this way, a changing table can provide theme and functionality to an otherwise bland room.

Small tables and chairs provide a play area for children while accommodating their small stature. Children can enjoy the small furniture as they play tea time and socialize with other children. Again, the nursery can be used to provide a theme to your children’s room and small table sets are no exception as they can come with your favorite professional or college team’s logo. Team logos are not the limit however as cartoons, shows, and movies are also printed on children’s nursery furniture.

The nursery also provides the setting for a child’s bed. Here is another area of customization that can be thematically aligned with the rest of the nursery. A bassinet belongs in the nursery. A bassinet is a small bed that gives a cocoon-like encirclement of an infant, from birth to about four months, in which the child can sleep. A bassinet is usually on rockers, although a less portable and more sturdy form of the bassinet can also be found in the nursery, the cradle or crib.

The cradle takes the place of the bassinet when the child becomes too large for the bassinet. A cradle comes in different wood types as well as plastic composites and might have a slide down side for easy access to the child. Depending on the theme of the nursery, the cradle, like other pieces of nursery furniture can be used to help characterize the nursery.

Next to the cradle or bassinet a bookshelf is useful. A bookshelf puts books close at hand enabling a parent to establish a small library for the child and assist in the infant’s intelligence during the highly developmental phase of childhood. Parents usually find a bookshelf preferable to clutter on the floor, although sometimes a simple bulk storage container can do the trick in lieu of the bookshelf.

A rocking chair is another useful piece of nursery furniture that has several functions. The rocking chair can be used to as a close proximity monitoring station for the infant while not disturbing them. A parent can also use a rocking chair to hold the child and rock them to sleep. If you place the rocking chair near the cradle of bassinet, then placing a sleeping infant to bed is simple.

Different pieces of nursery furniture provide a functional area for parents to supervise a child. From infancy, a child can use a bassinet before moving to a crib or cradle. A changing table is a worthwhile investment during this time, as it prevents needless transportation. Also, a rocking chair and bookshelf provide a double pronged close proximity furniture that enable the parent to soothe a child to sleep. Altogether, all the pieces that a parent puts into a nursery can be customized with the movie, show, cartoon, or team memorabilia of choice to provide a personalized environment for an infant.
