Mr. Popper's Penguins Family Movie Review for Parents

-by Ginger

Mr. Popper’s Penguins, is yet another children’s classic come to the big screen. Everyone knows the story of the poor house painter who comes to own a penguin. When he and his wife inherit another penguin from the zoo, they soon find themselves overrun by the Momma, Daddy, and all of the baby penguins. Every one of Mr. Popper’s penguins has a unique personality, which gives the story charm and the ability to make everyone smile. This family movie review explores a modern, more updated version of the classic tale.

In this modernized version, businessman Tom Popper, played by Jim Carrey, inherits six adorable penguins. He must turn his apartment into a winter wonderland and soon his life as a businessman begins to unravel. The penguins begin to take over his life. The penguins eat dinner with him, sleep with him, and even dance with him. His life begins to fall apart and the penguins rule!

The penguins include the free-spirited and lovable Nimrod, the flatulent Stinky, and the talented Captain. Bitey knows how to use her teeth to her advantage, often at the most inopportune times. Bitey’s favorite meal is Mr. Popper’s legs. Lovey is about to become a proud penguin pappa. Loudy’s favorite sports are football and belly-sliding. This unlikely menagerie soon becomes the bane of Mr. Popper’s existence, as he tries to cope with an apartment that has become a mini-Antarctica. This is a hilarious situation comedy.

This is a very cute movie and there is little that this parental guide to the movies could find that would not make it appropriate for all audiences. Mr. Popper’s Penguins is a children’s classic that second, third, and fourth graders are already familiar with. This modern version is an update of the original. This delightful version has a few twists that were not in the original, but that makes for a good movie. Mr. Popper’s Penguins is fun for children of all ages, from 6 to 60.

Set for release this summer, Mr. Popper’s Penguins will put a chill on the summer heat. Go see it with your kids. They will love it and so will you.
