Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor Movie Review for Parents

-by Ginger

Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor tells the story of seduction, adultery, with a smattering of violence, sexual material, and drug content mixed in.  The plot is simple, but the drama is made more complex by the complexities of the characters.  The story tells a story of a woman who is married to a man who becomes complacent about the relationship.  She feels as if she is hardly in his life it all.  He forgets holidays and is so self-absorbed that she feels as if she is missing something.  Along comes a powerful social media executive who is a romantic and promises to add meaning to her life.

The powerful socialite seduces her, but continually becomes increasingly more demanding of her attention.  Eventually he demands that she either end life with their husband to be with him or walk away from the possibilities that life with him offers.  She is torn between the two lovers.  One of them offers the emotional fulfillment and excitement that has been missing from her life, but seems almost too good to be true.  The other one offers her stability, but the spark is gone.  The question is whether she can reunite the spark with her husband or whether she will leave him to follow a life of passion and pleasure, but also danger.  This movie presents a complex adult situation and portrays it an adult manner.  This movie was not meant for kids and this family movie review feels that this is one that is not appropriate for children under 13.

This parental guide to the movies rated the Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor movie at close to an R even though it did not technically cross the lines in terms of nudity to qualify for an official R rating from the MPAA.  Official movie reviews and ratings have a strict criteria built into the system, but family movie reviews differ significantly in opinion as to what is appropriate.  The entire content of the Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor  movie is based on activities and morals that are deplorable.  The sheer amount of sexual content and romantic interludes of the woman’s new lover are the reason for rating this movie higher than the MPAA. The sexual scenes may not show the amount of nudity necessary to cross over into an R rating, but it is difficult to justify that someone would not know what was happening. The film technique stopped barely short of crossing the line into an R rating.  This one walked the line, staying legally barely on the side of the lower, more kid friendly rating.

The Temptation: Confessions of a Marriage Counselor movie shows drinking, explicit sexual activities between two adults, and involves prescription drug addiction.  The adult main characters are poor role models of the stable family life as a role model that most wish to portray.  The wife in the movie is drawn away and is unfaithful to her husband.  The wife in the movie has sex with another man while she’s still married to her husband.  This movie has its share of lies and deceit sprinkled throughout as well.  The wife must lie in order to try to balance her life with two lovers.
