Snitch Movie Review for Parents

-by Ginger

The plot of Snitch is your first clue that this is not a movie for kids. In this movie a father’s son is set up on drug charges. In order to free his son, the father must go undercover for the DEA and participate in a drug deal. As you can expect, this movie is full of violence, lots of shooting, car crashes, bad language, and shady underhanded characters. It was rated PG-13 for drug content and violence. For this movie, that about sums it up in terms of the content rating for this movie.

When the plot line for movie can be summed up in one are two sentences, it is a good clue that the main point of the movie is action and adventure sequences. The Snitch movie contains unsavory role models doing unsavory things. The main character nobly risks his life to save his son, but in doing so he must enter into the underworld of high level drug cartels. If he does not, both his and his son’s lives are in danger. The movie contains a well meaning mother who tries to convince him not to do it, but like any good hero, her interjection of concern is overridden by him. In the end he decides to take the deal in the hopes that his son will not have to spend the next 10 years in jail for a crime that he did not commit.

The Snitch movie is based on a true story. It has plenty of threats of violence, bullets flying, and lots of bad guys. In this movie, the bad guys outnumber the good guys many to one. Please be warned, lots of cars and tractor trailers were harmed during the making of this movie. The movie has a lot of action and overload of violence. The only thing Snitch does not have is sexual content. The men are too busy shooting things and turning over cars for that. A PG-13 rating is appropriate for this action adventure film, but parents must be aware that the entire movie revolves around the theme of drugs and the drug trade. It is not a movie for children, but older teens may enjoy it if they like this type of movie. By comparison, Snitch is typical for movies of its genre. Anything with Bruce Willis in it is just as bad. Personally, this parental guide to the movies thinks that there are better choices for good family fun at the big screen.
