Movie Review for Parents - Megamind

-by Ginger

By now, everyone is familiar with DreamWorks Animation, at least if you happen to hang around for the end credits. This family movie is set for release, November 5, 2010 and stars the voices of Will Ferrell, Brad Pitt, and Jonah Hill. In this movie, Megamind and his nemesis, Metro Man are sent away from their home planets. Megamind, the supervillain tries to conquer Metro City. Metro Man is the hero of the movie and must defend Metro City from the evil villain. Just as Megamind is about to win and the demise of Metro Man is imminent, Megamind has an epiphany and realizes that his life is without purpose if he does not have an enemy to fight.

Megamind sinks into a deep depression and decides to build a fiery mega monster so that he will have something to fight, thus restoring his purpose in life. Well, if you are a comic book fan, you know what happens next. The monster decides to seek revenge after a lifetime of rejection and decides to take it all out on humanity. Megamind must now become the hero and defender of humanity, saving humanity from its ultimate destruction. Now, you know the plot in this epic story that places a few twists on the classic comic book theme.

Movie rating guide for parents, Megamind was rated PG for mild language, violence, and scary images. In this Frankenstein gone wrong animated battle between good and evil, comic book like violence reigns. Any battle between good and evil is destined to have some form of violence. It is in a cartoon format, therefore, it is not likely any child will see it as real. I would not recommend this movie for children who are not able to distinguish the difference between reality and cartoon. However, for children 10 and over, it will probably delight them, particularly if your kid happens to have a stack of comic books stashed under their bed.
