Movie Summary
Mary Poppins is a film based on the series of children's books by Walt Disney Productions and was released in 1964. The story is about two upscale children who have a strict, career-driven father. When the kids have chased away yet another nanny, it’s Mary Poppins (played by Julie Andrews) who blows in with the wind and ends up on their doorstep. Poppins is the ultimate Super Nanny and is "practically perfect" in every way. She uses her magical carpetbag of tricks to help the children get back in line, and even draw their father into the family circle. Poppins’ sidekick, Burt (Dick Van Dyke), brings a glimpse of romance and a lot of humor. The musical score is filled with favorites such as a "Spoonful of Sugar" and "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious." It was Disney’s first Academy Award-nominated feature film and had 13 nominations in all.
