Judy Moody and the Not Buumer Summer Family Movie Review
for Parents

-by Ginger

Get Ready! Coming to theaters this summer, it’s Judy Moody. We have all read the books about this vivacious girl who has an opinion and is not afraid to let everyone know about it. This family guide to the movies considers this a must see, especially if you happen to be one of those parents who is staring at a bookshelf of Judy Moody books as we speak. Imaginative and hilarious, Judy Moody is going to take your kids on a summer vacation that they will never forget.

In this non-stop comedy, everyone’s favorite third grader, Judy Moody, is planning the best double-dare adventure of the century. When Judy’s parents announce that they must go to California for the summer, Judy is doomed to spend what was supposed to be best summer ever stuck at home with her Aunt Opal and brother, Stink. Now, she has to find a way to make this the best summer ever, but it does not seem possible under these circumstances. But never fear, we all know Judy and she will find a way.

Without giving away the spoiler, this parental guide to the movies can tell you that Aunt Opal turned out to be really cool and they came up with an awesome plan to make it a not bummer summer. Judy came up with the mega-rare not bummer summer contest and in her quest to win, they go on the most awesome adventure ever. To win, they must complete a list of thrill tasks to earn thrill points. I will not tell you any more, except that it involves roller coasters, the quest to ride elephants, and even a chance to catch Big Foot. It you want to know more, you will just have to see the movie.

This movie is non-stop fun and I see absolutely nothing that would make it inappropriate for children of any age. Yes, Judy is a little on the rebellious side, but if you have read the books, you know that is what makes us love her. It shows examples of positive family relationships and interactions. The kids build strong bonds with their Aunt Opal. However, some parents might find her parenting style a little lenient. She does give a good example of how to really connect with kids on a deeper level, so this can be seen in a positive light. Aunt Opal is wild, crazy and a little childlike herself. This is a really fun movie for kids of all ages. It is super-awesome!

The real question is how long it will be until “Supercalifragilisticexpithrilladillic:” makes its way into the dictionary. Does anyone know if they have come up with a text abbreviation for that one yet?
