Movie Review for Parents - Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part I

-by Ginger

Here comes Harry Potter again. This time, Voldemort’s power is growing stronger and he now has control over both the Ministry of Magic and Hogwarts. Harry, Ron and Hermione take on the task of finishing Dumbledore’s work and to find the rest of the Horcruxes to defeat Voldemort. They must act carefully and quickly, or there is no hope for themselves or the Wizarding World. This is more magical fun from the makers of the other Harry Potter movies. By now, parents should know what they are in for with Harry Potter movies.

The MPAA has not rated this movie as of yet, but it can be expected that it will be either a PG or PG-13, based on the ratings for other Harry Potter movies. Interestingly enough, the MPAA rated different Harry Potter movies as PG or PG-13 based on scary content. This one will probably be a PG-13 because there are two kissing scenes in the movie. It contains magical scenes of scary actions, such as a dead woman being eaten by a snake. This is implied and not explicitly stated. A boy is seen in his underwear jumping into a frozen lake. These scenes will probably sway the ratings towards a PG-13 when all is said and done. In my opinion, it is the same as any other Harry Potter movie in terms of whether to take your kids or not. It is geared towards ages 8- early teens. You can make your own decision, based on your knowledge about other Harry Potter movies, but I think it is just good magical fun.
