Dream House Movie Review for Families

            Dream House is a horror flick. I do repeat; this is a very scary movie. This Parental Guide to the movies thinks that someone might have been watching a little too much Ghost Hunters lately, or is it Ghost Adventures, one of those. In this movie, a couple finds what seems to be their perfect family dream home. However, soon after they move in, they learn of a brutal murder that took place years earlier. You guessed it; the former residents are still there. Get out your EVP recorders, EMF detectors and ghost-o-meters, we are going haunting hunting.

            The ghosts are two little girls who were murdered by their father. The house is complete with satanic writing on the basement walls, and a psycho killer who is just released from a mental institution. It seems that the house has a reputation; everyone who lives in the house gets killed. Now the father who murdered the little girls and their mother is out and on the loose. Will he succeed in killing the new family, or will they get away? This Dream House movie will give anyone the creeps.

            This family movie review does not recommend it for anyone under the age of 14 or 15. It is a very frightening psychodrama with some very adult themes. It was rated a PG-13 for violence, terror, some sexuality, and strong language. It does show a man and woman in bed. This family movie review thinks that the content in this movie goes beyond a strict PG-13. Although not entirely R content, it is not considered to be mild. This movie might be OK for older teens, but not those that are in their younger teen years. It is very frightening content, as would be expected with a horror flick. If your child is too young for horror films, do not take them to see this one as their first. It was well-done for its genre. It will frighten and keep you up late at night.
