Burlesque is your typical small town girl has big dreams, an awesome voice, and runs away to the big city for a chance at the big time type of movie. Wait, that was the whole plot in one sentence. This movie is filled with big stars and big voices. The little girl becomes a star. There is lots of great singing and dance sequences and bright city lights. There is not much more that can be said about the movie, other than if you go see it, you are in for a great show.
As far as a parents movie advisory is concerned, you have seen Christina Aguilera’s costumes already. If you have a child who regularly invades your make-up cabinet and likes to strut around the house with feather boas, belting out songs at the top of her lungs, then she probably won’t be shocked. If your child is not up to that yet, then be advised that there are lots of slinky costumes, fishnet stockings and stiletto heels to be had in this movie. Burlesque received a PG-13 rating from the MPAA movie rating guide. I would place it somewhere between a PG-13 and an R, simply because of the serving of alcohol and the obvious slant towards sex appeal in the performances. The title should be a clue in this one. The dance sequences were not intended for Disney, they are a burlesque show.
