Brave Movie Review for Parents

-by Ginger

Brave is a wonderful fantasy tale set in Scotland in a time long ago, the 10th century to be exact. This story features the heroine Merida, an aspiring archer and the daughter of royalty. In this story, the folly of youth causes Merida to make a reckless choice that unleashes danger in the form of a curse. She must now fix her mistake and set things right before it is too late. In order to fix this mistake, she must depend on every ounce of her bravery and her skills at archery.

The Brave movie is rated PG for scary action and some rude humor, but this family movie review thinks that it is not enough to ruin its family value. Brave is a wonderful classic tale by Disney. It has everything that a Disney classic needs. It has castles, warriors, and a defiant princess who breaks tradition. There is one scene that features a gentleman in a kilt mooning the crowd, but he is facing the other direction. This creation from the makers of Toy Story 3 is an endearing tale of mystery, magic, and folklore.

The Brave movie combines humor and fantasy, all blended together in the tradition of Scottish storytelling. This is not the conventional “princess” film that one has come to expect from Disney. This tale provides a refreshing twist to the traditional “girlie” princess. Merida can hold her own, even when faced with mortal danger.

Along with this film, a video game based on the Brave movie is scheduled to release at the same time. Brave promises to be one of the great Disney films of recent times. Brave breaks tradition as far as princess stories are concerned, but this is exactly why this movie makes for some refreshing family fun this summer. This movie will bring a refreshing perspective to the big screen and is being released when parents need a break the most. Taking the kids to see the Brave movie is an excellent choice for those that want a little summer fun and a break from the heat. This family movie review highly recommends Brave for a welcome summer splash.
