Movie Summary

Beauty and the Beast was the first animated feature film in the history of the Oscars to be nominated for Best Picture (1991). The story is of an “average” girl, Belle, who loves to read and delve into the adventures of books. Her father is an absent-minded inventor who inadvertently offends the Beast who resides in a gloomy castle deep within the woods. Belle boldly takes her father's place embarking on an adventure of her own. With the assistance of the castle's enchanted staff, an endearing and tender romance develops between Belle and the Beast teaching all who watch an important lesson, true beauty comes from within. The detailed animation and world-class soundtrack features tunes that are known among the masses (the title song won the 1991 Best Song Oscar) aiding in a story that captures the viewer’s heart and imagination.

Movie Review for Parents - Our View

-by Allison

Beauty & the Beast is distinguished by splendid animation, memorable voice work and well detailed animation.

This film will entrance you and soon you'll forget it's an animated feature. Don't be surprised if you find yourself swaying to the tunes and your heart melting as the characters come to life. The creativity behind bringing to life everyday items – like a clock, teacup and teapot – is clever story telling. While there are a couple darker scenes, it’s more likely that everyone from toddler to Grandma will enjoy watching this fairytale.
