Baby Onesies.

One of the most convenient articles in a baby’s wardrobe would have to be the one piece bodysuit or the Onesie. The term Onesie is actually a trademarked term by Gerber, but is commonly used to describe a baby one piece. Gerber’s Onesie is a simple cotton t-shirt with snaps at the crotch to prevent the shirt from exposing the baby’s belly. (Brr!)
A Onesie can describe a few items found in Baby’s drawers. There is the aforementioned t-shirt version that leaves the baby’s legs fully exposed. This option can be worn by itself during warm summer months, it can serve as part of an outfit when donned with pants, or it can also work as an undergarment or layering when temperatures dip. They can be plain or have logos or patterns. The one pieces with logos look especially cute when paired with jeans and baby sneakers.
Onesies also describe the long sleeved, long legged pajamas commonly worn by infants. These are one piece pajamas that usually have feet attached. Some new winter babies’ wardrobes may consist entirely of these for the first few months. As the baby gets older the piece is usually reserved for bedtime or at night. Occasionally parent’s can find long legged pajamas that don’t include feet, these are fine for older kids during warmish nights but with very young babies the legs will often just ride up and become an annoyance.
Another great feature to look for with the long sleeved one pieces is a pocket of fabric at the end of the sleeve that can be folded over the child’s hands (creating a thumb-less mitten.) This is to protect young babies from scratching themselves with their small but razor sharp fingernails- a must for new parents!
The best one pieces have a head opening in which the front and back overlap slightly at the shoulders, this allows for more give as the shirt is pulled over Baby’s head. Some versions have snaps at the shoulder, but during a speedy change the snaps could slow a parent down, so a wide opening is usually preferred.
Onesies are normally made with cotton, because it’s a gentle fabric on sensitive Baby’s skin. Thicker cotton is used for one pieces that are to be a main component of an outfit (like a collared polo-style Onesies.) Thinner less expensive cotton is often used in the multi-pack Gerber Onesies. These affordable one pieces are great for babies that are a little messier and require multiple changes in one day.
New parents will quickly come to learn all about the one piece body suit- and they will become astonishingly quick with the snaps after a little practice! These easy solutions for baby’s everyday clothes are a must-have for every parent and make a great shower gift (one can never have too many Onesies!) They come in packages of three to five. There are designs for boys, girls and even unisex colors like yellow and green.
Parents really appreciate the little things that make life easier with a new baby and the one piece body suit is a great, versatile article of clothing that really makes things simple.
