Nothing quite takes the toll on new parents like the mounds of baby diapers they will be changing. Newborns can need to be changed up to ten times a day! Between this and all the feedings, parents are likely to be drained- both financially and physically!
Until the eighties most families used cloth baby diapers to care for their babies. Diaper services were popular, dropping off clean and picking up dirty diapers every day for a nominal fee. With the invention of disposable diapers, parents soon learned the price they paid for convenience, even at warehouse stores diapers can cost around twenty cents apiece. In the first year parents spend about five hundred dollars on disposable baby diapers, so why not make the switch back to cloth diapers? Cloth diapers are better for the environment and cost less in the long run. Diaper services are few and far between now, so that does mean washing the diapers by hand but it may be worth it for a baby whose sensitive bottom can’t handle disposables.
